An Evening with Wayne Tanswell

An Evening with Wayne Tanswell  |  Friday 24th February, 7pm

Tickets on sale now: £19 per guest for two courses and a talk, questions and answers and a book signing from traditional signwriter, Wayne.

Wayne Tanswell has a rare trade these days; he is a traditional signwriter and has been so since 1980. He’s a massively important part of retaining the heritage of traditional pub signage, but also takes commissions for projects as diverse as stock cars, stage settings, film sets, game reserves and more. Wayne is not solely a signwriter; he has just released his fourth book, is a striking artist in his own right, recently held an exhibition in the Apex Gallery in Bury St. Edmunds, was commissioned to assist an artist with a large scale installation at the Tate Modern, has been interviewed on many local BBC radio stations AND holds workshops and seminars all over the world. You could say he’s quite busy...

We first met Wayne here at The Plough some 9 years ago, and always look forward to him visiting; he’s warm, funny and hugely charismatic, with wonderful stories about his work and the travels it has taken him on across the world. This evening will fascinate anyone with an interest in art, culture, marketing, history or travel and indeed anyone who has an eye for aesthetics and likes a giggle! The full menu for the evening is here. Pre-order required.

St. Nicholas Hospice Care Raising Money for St. Nicholas Hospice Care

We’re a busy lot at the Plough, but not so busy that we can’t find the time to raise some much needed cash for people in the community around us. Our chosen charity since 2008 has been St Nicholas Hospice Care in Bury St. Edmunds, who give palliative care to terminally ill patients and also amazing support to their families. They work tirelessly to provide a very valuable service to the local community, relying on funding. You can help by donating your spare change to the collection bottle on the bar. So far, the Plough and its lovely patrons have raised over £12,000 for the charity since 2008.

Linky links- sites and people we rather like... - An indispensable portal to the British Isles since 1998. - A nifty little guide if you're stuck for ideas for what to do! - We hope in the nicest possible way we'll never need this very hardworking charity. The Hospice provides an invaluable palliative service to terminal patients and their families in the local area and we are pleased to support them as our chosen charity. - Great site for local news and events. - Events and things to do in Suffolk, including family days out, activities, attractions, concerts, festivals and much more! - Our preferred marquee supplier for weddings and large garden based parties and events. Rob and Toby and their crew really know their stuff and we have enjoyed an excellent relationship with them for several years. We find their quality excellent and just as importantly, their service and attention to detail.
